The Amicus under the leadership of Tiddleson find their way into the Missouri Ozarks, where on a high knoll deep within a cedar forest they take refuge inside the many caverns of an ancient limestone marked with recent Indian hieroglyphics. Natural enemies abound along the trails they trod so narrow a rabbit can barely walk. They travel looking skyward and glancing frightfully into the shadows of the forest.
